Tide Rolls Penn State 24-3

Alabama_Logo2 You didn’t have to watch the game Saturday night to know how it went, you simply just had to hear what Joe Paterno had to say after the game was over. When asked about the game, Paterno said, “I thought (Alabama) had a very good football team.” He added, “I think they outcoached us; they outplayed us and kicked the crap out of us. Anything else you want to know?”

For the Tide, is was almost a perfectly executed game plan. Greg McElroy completed 16 of 24 passes for 229 yards and two touchdowns. Behind him, Trent Richardson rushed for 190 yards and became the first player to run for over 100 yards against the Nittany Lion defense in 17 games. Coming out of the gate, the Tide scored on three of its first four possessions allowing them to build a lead of 17 to 0 going into halftime at Bryant Denny.  The Tide added another 7 points in the fourth quarter to cap of the evening when Richardson scored on a one yard dive into the end zone.

On defense, Alabama forced four turnovers, including three inside the Alabama red zone. They only allowed 283 yards in the game and three points to be put on the board by a late field goal in the fourth quarter by Collin Wagner. All in all, the pressure on freshman quarterback Rob Bolden was too much, he went 13 of 29 for 144 yards with two interceptions. The Tide defense also only allowed 127 yards rushing, limiting Evan Royster to 32 yards on 9 carries.

The Crimson Tide will next head to Duke with a boost on defense with the return of Marcell Dareus and possible return on Mark Ingram in the backfield.
