Blake Sims Qualifies for Football Team

Incoming Freshman Blake Sims has officially been cleared for by the NCAA and will make his first practice on the Alabama Crimson Tide at safety tonight. There were fears that Sims would not qualify and be ruled ineligible to play this season. However, he did make the grades needed while attending summer school at a Mississippi junior college.

Blake was signed out of Gainesville Georgia High School where he played quarterback. However, through the recruiting process it became clear he would be used for his overall athletic ability at another position. While most thought he would first see action as a wide receiver, he will start at safety tonight in the Tide’s second practice. Sims will immediately compete with the Tide’s troubles at the safety position, especially with Rod Woodson leaving. Sims will most likely take the final spot on the 105 slot roster.
