BAMA takes top spot in Preseason AP Poll

Alabama_Logo2 Over the weekend the AP released its preseason poll, and the University of Alabama took its top spot along with 54 of the 60 first place votes in the top 25 voting. The last time the Tide held the top spot at the beginning of the season was 1978. That year, Bear Bryant led the tide to a 10-1 season and both SEC Championship and an AP National Championship after beating the Penn State Nittany Lions 14-7 in the Sugar Bowl. The only other time the Crimson Tide was ranked number one before then was 1966 when Bryant’s team was coming off consecutive National Championship wins.

As for this years team, they take the top spot after winning the BSC National Championship last season. However, the team and especially the defense will look very different this season. As for the SEC, it has six teams to make the top 25 including the Tide. The other five SEC teams to make the list were Florida (4), Arkansas (17), LSU (21), Auburn (22), and Georgia (23).
