Fund established for Joe Kines’ grandchildren

Tuscaloosa News:

A fund has been established to support the grandchildren and son-in-law of former University of Alabama defensive coordinator Joe Kines in the wake of an auto accident that claimed the life of Susan Kines Langston, Kines’ daughter and the wife of Northridge High School football assistant coach Keith Langston, on Monday.

The fund is being administered by Bank of Tuscaloosa. Donations should be made payable to The Keith Langston for Benefit of Susan Kines Langston Fund and sent to Bank of Tuscaloosa, P.O. Box 2508, Tuscaloosa, AL, 35401, attention Jim Clayton.

Current UA defensive coordinator Kirby Smart, who played under Joe Kines when Kines coached at Georgia, set up the fund with assistance from Northridge head football coach Mike Smith.

“The fund was set up to help Coach (Keith) Langston to be able to help his children with anything they might need ... medical care, whatever,” Smith said. “It’s there for the longevity of taking care of those kids. They not only lost a mother (and wife), but also the loss of another income.

“Kirby (Smart) called me up and said a lot of people Coach (Joe) Kines worked with were calling and wanting to help out. Kirby thought it was a good idea to set something up for Keith and for the kids.”

The fund is set up to assist Keith Langston and his two sons, 7-year-old Josh and 14-year-old Matthew. The two were in the car and survived the crash.

Names of all contributors will be sent to the Kines family.
