Bobby Johnson Steps Down

Vanderbiltlogo Vanderbilt head coach Bobby Johnson has stepped down as head football coach for the Vanderbilt Commodores. Many reports have indicated that there is no clear reason why Johnson made the decision to leave, but don’t believe he was forced out.

In fact, Johnson’s time as head coach, though not glamorous, did bring some big moments for the Commodore football program including a bowl win in 2008. Granted he is not going out on a high not. His team didn’t win a SEC conference game last season. He definitely has left the team better than he found it.

Johnson went 29-66 at the helm, and his successor will look to build on the foundation Johnson left. The front runners to replace Johnson are within the ranks and look to be Bruce Fowler and Robbie Caldwell, both of which served Johnson as assistant head coaches.
