Green Suspended

Robby Green, the University of Alabama defensive back, has been suspended for violation of team rules.

While we don't know what rule was broken he will be kept out of spring practice.

Green played in all 14 games last year for the tide and had 33 tackles, six pass breakups and one interception. In the 14 games he made 6 starts.

This upcoming year, he would be one of the top challengers for the starting safety on defense.

In a statement made on Thursday coach Saban said of the situation,

"There is a situation with Robby and we are currently in the process of determining the facts,"

"To make any kind of announcement on his playing status at this time is completely premature and it is not appropriate to do so until we have a chance to go through due process for Robby and his family. If there is a change in his current status, we will make an announcement once a final determination is made."

Depending on the severity of the crime, this should definitely shake up spring practice and open the door for some solid competition for the open spots on defense, especially in the secondary.

Spring Practice Coming Soon

The University of Alabama's football team will start spring practice on March 12th.

With players leaving, especially on the defensive side of the ball, getting things going couldn't come soon enough. Luckily there some of the newest members of the team are already enrolled and will be able to participate in practice.

Spring practice will conclude on April 17th with the University's annual A-Day game.

Recruiting Recap

In the legends first post, I will discuss some of the amazing athletes that make up the 2010 class.

Demarcus Milliner - Absolute stud and the prized recruit of the 2010 class. Milliner is a 6-2 180 freak from Millbrook, AL. The only 5 Star in our class, who runs in the sub 4.5's and as the opportunity to play as a true freshman. With only 1 returning DB to the 2010 Tide, Milliner could fight for some playing time along side last years gem DB Dre Kirkpatrick.

Phillip Sims - Considered the number one QB in the 2010 class, Phillip comes from Chesapeake, VA where he won a State Championship as a junior at Oscar Smith, where he also became Virginia's all time leading passer. He has some kinks to work out before becoming successful at the next level, but with McElroy coming back for his senior year and A.J. riding shotgun he should have plenty of time to develop

Arie Kouandjio - A 6-6 314 lb Offensive tackle was a late signing to the 2010 class but will prove to be an anchor for our offensive line for the next few years. Arie is one of the strongest recruits in the 2010 class and is currently though of as a RT. With his rare combination of size, strength, and speed Arie is versatile enough to play Guard or Tackle at the college ranks. Coach Sunseri had to get Arie out of the rarely recruited state of Maryland, but he hit a home run with Arie who is probably our best recruit on the offensive line.

Deion Belue - This 6" 175lb 3 star ATH played both sides of the ball for Deshler in Tuscumbia, AL. While being recruited Coach Saban told him he sees his future along side many future stars in what will be a nasty secondary. While probably needing a year or two to prepare for SEC WR's, Belue has a great opportunity to succeed as a punt returned, a spot left vacant by all world return man Javi Arenas. Last season Deion had a run of 7 straight games in which he returned a punt for a touchdown.

Alfy Hill - Another one of our prized recruits in the 2010 class, he was recruit out of the state of North Carolina. This 6-4 222 lb defensive end is considered one if not the fastest at his position. Alfy will most likely be red shirted this year so he can gain 20-30 pounds and become and absolute terror coming off the end. With his long arms and incredible speed for a big man, Alfy has all the tools to be a superstar in the SEC.

The Man, The Myth, The Legend

2010 Signing Class Filled

The University of Alabama finished its recruitment today with 26 athletes signing letters of intent to play at the Capstone. Some of the 26 are already enrolled at school and will be joined by their fellow classmates this fall.

As of now, the class is ranked by as the 5th ranked class in the nation. Here is how the top five classes rank.
  1. Florida
  2. Texas
  3. Auburn
  4. USC
  5. Alabama

I don't see the Tide's ranking moving either direction as National Signing Day comes to an end. While it doesn't have the glamour as previous classes brought to Alabama by Nick Saban, with number one rankings and highly ranked recruits, it is filled from top to bottom with some true athletes. Here is a list of the newest members of the Crimson Tide.

  • DE- Alfy Hill
  • OL- Arie Kouandjio
  • DB- Dequan Menzie
  • LB- C.J. Mosley
  • WR- DeAndrew White
  • DB- Jarrick Williams
  • RB- Corey Grant
  • DE- Adrian Hubbard
  • WR- Keiwone Malone
  • DB- Nick Perry
  • ATH- Blake Sims
  • TE- Brian Vogler
  • WR- Ronald Carswell
  • TE- Harrison Jones
  • DT- Brandon Lewis
  • DB- Deion Belue
  • DT- Brandon Ivory
  • DE- Wilson Love
  • K- Jay Williams
  • K- Cade Foster
  • RB- Jalston Fowler
  • DB- John Fulton
  • OL- Chad Lindsay
  • DB- DeMarcus Milliner
  • OL- Austin Shepherd
  • QB- Phillip Sims

With the class coming in it is clear that the coaches feel their biggest need was in the secondary and on defense with so many players either graduating or going to the NFL. Looking at the number of defensive backs and defensive linemen in the class, Coach Saban has taken the first step to fill those holes.

We will break down each commitment individually in the coming weeks to get a better idea of how they will impact the Tide in the coming future.

Kirby Smart Gets New Deal

Today the University of Alabama board of trustees approved assistant coach Kirby Smart's new contract.

With schools like UGA trying to steal Smart away, we knew that Nick Saban and Co. would have to come to the plate with a big deal of their own.

Smart signed a three year deal worth $750,000 a year which doubles his salary from last year.

10 Tide Players get Invite to Combine

The University of Alabama has 10 players that have garnered invitations to this year's NFL Combine.

The ten players to get invites are:

  • DB- Javier Arenas

  • NT- Terrence Cody

  • DE- Brandon Deaderick

  • DB- Kareem Jackson

  • OG- Mike Johnson

  • LB- Rolando McClain

  • TE- Colin Peek

  • K- Leigh Tiffin

  • DE- Lorenzo Washington

  • SS- Justin Woodall

For those seniors leaving who did not get an invitation to the combine, such as Upchurch, Reemer, Davis, Anders and others. Their big day to prove what they can do will come at Alabama's pro day.

Number 26 in the books

With a little over a day to go until National Signing Day, the University of Alabama got a bit of good news early with their 26th commitment.

Dequan Menzie, a 5 foot 11 inch, cover corner transfer from Copiah-Lincoln C.C., made his commitment to Kirby Smart last night.

As said before, signing day is a day and a half away, and with the Tide now getting their 26th public commitment, the Tide now have two spots left to fill on their 2010 class currently ranked 3rd in class rankings by
