National Champions!!!

The Crimson Tide added its 13th national championship, defeating the Texas Longhorns 37 to 21 in the BCS National Championship game.

The game started and may have ended in the first quarter when Marcell Dareus knocked Colt McCoy out of the game with a pinched nerve. From that point on, the game was put in the hands of true freshmen Garrett Gilbert, who to his credit had his team in position late in the game but fell short as time ran out.

No matter what your take on the impact of the McCoy injury to the outcome of the game. It was very unlikely that the outcome of the game would have been any different given the dominance of the Alabama offensive line and ground attack.

The Tide had two running backs rush for over a 100 yards against the so called best rushing defense in football. Not to mention, both Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson had two touchdowns adding to their 116 yard and 109 yard performances.

Though the Longhorns put together a late scare for the lead in the second half, the Tide defense played at a high level once again cementing themselves as one of the best in the game itself. In fact, it was the defense that sealed the game late in the fourth quarter when Eryk Anders rushed Gilbert and caused a fumble deep in Texas territory to give the Tide the game and Championship.

This again is Alabama’s 13th National Championship, 8th National Championship in the major poll era. Either way, you can’t argue with the tradition that this program has made. Also, Nick Saban also became the second coach to win two BCS National Championships, the only other being Urban Meyer.

Mark Ingram also broke the Heisman jinx and became only the second Heisman trophy winner to go on and lead his team to the national championship. Not to mention, again did it against the nation’s number one rushing defense.

So it looks like Bryant Denny will have a new statue in the courtyard to go along with the other coaches who have brought Championships to the Capstone.

Congrats and Roll Tide!!!
